The Lytle Junior High Cross Country teams attended the Medina Valley Panther Invitational this past weekend, August 26, 2023. The teams displayed great showings, coming off the best summer base training in the history of the Lytle Junior High cross-country program. Despite the raging heat and humidity, our Pirates found solutions, not excuses. In the 7th Grade girls' division, the dynamic duo of Lila Cortinas and Annalise Quintanilla led the way, placing 3rd and 4th out of 76 runners. We did not assemble a 7th Grade girls' team this time, but we look forward to it soon. 

In the 8th Grade girls' division, "RACE OF THE DAY", the team was led by Elyse Cortinas and Kaycee Galindo, who finished 4th and 6th place out of 94 runners. Following close behind were teammates Emma Emery in 11th place, Andrea Gomez in 15th, Sophia Herrera in 23rd , and Zaira Farfan in 46th place. The team topped their 11 opponents by accumulating 45 points to seal the deal with a first-place team finish. It was an extraordinary team effort.  

In the 7th Grade boys' division, Jacob Cantu swept the field of 79 runners to claim his first career win in a Pirate uniform. Trailing close behind were teammates Christopher Corral in 16th, Weston Cook in 33rd, and Eduardo Corleto in 44th place. There was no team finish this time around.  

In the 8th Grade boys’ division, the team finished 5th out of 10 teams. In a field of 122 runners, the team finished in their respective order: Michael Scotello in 3rd, Adrian Reyna in 6th, Elijah Robles in 42nd, Luke Robles in 46th, Piercen Moreno in 48th, and Anthony Scotello in 80th place.  

The teams will travel to River City Community Church in Selma this weekend, September 2, 2023, to compete in the FEAST Patriots XC Invitational. Please congratulate these fine student-athletes if you see them around.
