Over the past few days, the Lytle Pirates beat Columbus 93-68 to become Area Champions on Friday, February 24, 2023. It was a great team playoff win and everyone got to play. Last night, February 28, 2023, was the game of the night in 3A. The Lytle Pirates took on the Poth Pirates in an epic rematch. Senior Malakai Castro started off the game with 3 straight mid-range jump shots to get the Pirates going. From there, the Pirate defense was relentless. They held Poth's high-powered offense to 4 points in the second quarter and 16 points in the half. In the second half, the little General Eli Vega ran the offense to perfection, scoring 13 points and zero turnovers with the ball in his hands 50 percent of the time. Offensively, the Pirates were led by Senior Jordan Balderaz, who scored 22 points and had 10 plus rebounds, and Senior Jaelen Guevara, who scored 12 points and was a key member in helping Eli Vega kill the clock in the 4th quarter to secure the victory. The Pirates are now in the 3A Texas Sweet 16 and will face SGA Academy Kingsville at 6 pm in Seguin, in the Regional Tournament. Hope to see you there!
