5-2-2022 Lady Pirates at Region IV-3A Track Meet in Seguin
The Lady Pirates Track Season came to an end on Saturday, April 30, 2022, but it wasn't due to lack of effort. They turned in some of their best performances of the year. However, they just ran into some SPEED and some SUPER Freshman girls.
Marissa Lopez started our day and finished with her best time ever and a half second off our school record, but was edged out at the end by two Freshmen from Randolph. She ran a Personal Best of 2:24.56 finishing 4th, 1.25 seconds from 2nd. She battled with a foot injury all year and still almost managed to get to State.
Eisabel Guerrero finished 5th in the 1600m, a second off her Personal Best. She came in as the 9th seed and also ran into two pretty good Freshmen, this time they were from Vanderbilt Industrial, as four of the top 5 finishers in this event came from our Area.
The 4x400m Relay of Marissa Lopez, Samantha Mujica, Calyssa Sevier, and Moriah Gomez came into Saturday as the #2 seed after breaking the School Record again on Friday in the prelims with a 4:08.26. But we knew that other schools would start to load up and they did just that. We ran a great race and were in it till the end, but there was too much speed out there and we finished 6th. I was so proud of their effort in their fastest race of the year as they finished with a new School Record of 4:07.42.
All of these girls return next year and have set the bar higher.
I want to thank all the people who made this year possible. Starting with our Athletic Director Lori Wilson and Secretary Ada Tapia, our Administration, Roxanne Garcia, and all the coaches and staff who have helped us along the way. Thank you to Jones for the treatment of our athletes. Armando, Cross, and all of Transportation and Maintenance for getting us to our Meets, especially during these last few. The Nutrition Department for having our meals ready during those early Meets. All our track coaches, Foster, Kyle, Pierce, Escamilla, Trevino, and Hernandez, made this year memorable. And of course, all the teachers who have to deal with these student/athletes out of class. I'm sure I missed a lot of people and I am sorry for that.
It's been one of the best years coaching I have ever had. These girls are fun to coach and I get them back another year and they are even more motivated! They have definitely kept me going and I hope that this coming year we can bring more excitement than we did this year.
