The girls beat Cotulla last night, February 21, 2023, in Seguin 69-59 with a great crowd to make a return to the Regional Tournament starting on Friday. We have been in the “Sweet 16” for two years in a row. These girls just refuse to give up. We started out slow and got into foul trouble early, which forced us to take our press off and just play them man to man defense. We were up 41-29 at the half. We came out in the 3rd and really didn’t shoot that well, but we got some steals and made some layups to give us a 20-point lead. However, Cotulla fought back and we could only keep the lead at 10 to finish the game. We knew it would be tough because when you have to play someone for the third time you know each other well. We shot 22/59, we are due for a big offensive game come Friday. We scored 25 points off Cotulla turnovers and 18 in transition. The girls worked so hard. If you see them, please congratulate them for making it back to the Regional Tournament. It is such a great accomplishment and we are not done yet.

• Fizz Hutton had a double double with a season high 27 points. She had her best game of the season: 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 6 deflections, 9 steals and 1 block.
• Calyssa Sevier scored 18 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 deflection and 2 steals.
• Cadee Martinez had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 6 deflections and 4 steals.
• Amelia Martinez contributed 6 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 deflections and 1 steal.
• Katara Whitfield had 5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 deflections, 3 steals and 1 block.
• Mac Sessom had 4 points, 4 rebounds, 2 deflections and 2 steals. 

The girls will take on Rio Hondo on Friday at 6:00 in Seguin for the Regional Semi-Finals. Hope to see you there. Go Pirates!
