This past Monday night, February 20, 2023, the Pirates took on South San West Campus in a Bi-District playoff game. The Pirates won 87-52 to become Bi-District Champions. Although we played on a holiday, the Lytle Community showed up and showed out. The Lytle Community filled our side of the gymnasium from one side to the other. It was just a special moment for our boys to come back from the locker room and see our stands packed to the fullest. Just amazing. Thank You, Pirate Nation. The game started off close with West Campus hitting every shot possible in the first quarter and some big 3's in the second quarter. The Pirates were up 38-31 at half but after a heart-to-heart talk at halftime, the Pirates came out and took care of business. The Defense held them to 11 points in the 3rd and 4th quarter finishing with 23 steals in the game. Offensively, the charge was led by Senior Jordan Balderaz scoring 24 points and 7 rebounds. "He's a Freshman", Chase Guevarra scored 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and brought the energy the Pirates needed to take over the game. His older brother, Senior Jaelen Guevara had him a second half scoring of 18 points and leading the team with 5 steals. The Pirates will now face the Columbus Cardinals this Friday, February 24, for the second round of the playoffs with the gym location still TBD. As soon as we finalize the playoff info by this afternoon, hopefully, we will forward it to the district.
