2-8-2023 Varsity Boys Basketball Defeat Crystal City and Named District Champions.

Last night, February 7, 2023, was one for the ages! The gym was packed and rocking at the start of the girls' game, and the momentum continued into the boys' game. With a District Championship on the line, the Pirates showed up and showed out. They beat Crystal City 93-57. From tip off, the boys were on fire, hitting shots from all areas of the court. The Pirates scored 56 points in the first half alone. They continued their dominance in the second half to secure the District Championship. Senior Jordan Balderaz led all scorers with 37 points, while Seniors Malakai Castro and Andres Cardenas had 14 each. "He's a Freshman" Chase Guevara, scored 14 points and played relentless defense on the Javelinas point guard all night.  Cudos to the 7 Seniors who have finished second in District the last three years, but finally got over the hump, and brought the Lytle Community the Gold Ball in 2023. I am so proud of what we have accomplished so far. The Pirates still have two District games before the playoffs, so the work must continue. The boys will head down the road to face the Natalia Mustangs this Friday, February 10th, at 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there.

Congrats to the Lady Pirates on their 3rd District Championship in a row and good luck to them this Monday, February 13th, in the first round. Like Coach Wilson mentioned, having both boys and girls celebrate, cut the nets down, and take photos with the GOLD Ball was just priceless. Just a great night to be a Pirate!

Season record 27-6
