11-19-2022 Varsity Girls Basketball at Southside Tournament

Lady Pirates at Southside Tournament. The Lady Pirates went 0-2 on Friday, November 18, 2022, at the Southside Tournament. We lost to 5A Harlandale 81-72 but the girls played hard and we were happy with the performance they gave. We scored 22 points in transition, showing we were getting the ball down the court faster for layups. They hurt us on offensive rebounds, we must do a better job on blocking out. This was a great physical game to prepare us for District play. We then faced 5A Southside and lost 50-42. I feel like we should have won this game but we missed too many easy shots. I know the girls' legs were tired from the previous game, but that is what tournaments are for. Playing two good 5A schools on the same day and coming within 10 points in both games says so much about our team. When you see our record at 4-4, look at our schedule before you count us out.

Stats for those two games:

Caddie Martinez scored 39 points in both games and had 13 rebounds.

Calyssa Sevier had 36 points in both games, 25 rebounds and 10 steals.

Katara Whitfield scored 24 points in both games and had 15 rebounds.

Amelia Martinez scored 6 points in both games and 4 steals.

Adriana Garcia scored 5 points in both games.

Mac Sessom had 4 points in both games and 15 rebounds.

Today, November 19, 2022, we went back to the tournament to play for 3rd place against Devine, beating them 66-48 and bringing home some hardware. It was a great game with everyone playing and getting some great minutes. The girls are coming together and looking like the team we know they are.

Leading the team was Caddie Martinez, scoring 21 points, followed by Calyssa Sevier with 20 points.

Katatra Whitfield had 8 points.

Mac Sessom scored 6 points.

Arianna Garcia had 4 points.

Amelia Martinez had 3 points.

Kaylee Diaz and Jessica Mata both scored 2 points each.

Congratulations to Senior Caddie Martinez making the All-Tournament Team!
