"We Dug Deep!"

This past Friday, August 25, 2023, the Varsity football team opened the season at home vs Carrizo Springs, in which, this was 1 of our only 3 homes games being held at Walter Joyce Stadium this season, and the response from our crowd and community in support of our kids was unbelievable! 

The preparation and planning that has happened over the course of 3 months was put to the test on Friday Night, and our culture phrase "Dig Deep" was put on full display! From the opening kickoff to the final :28 seconds of the game, from the players to the people, everybody grabbed their shovel and "dug deep"! I always tell people; our life consists of two things: Moments & Memories and what a moment and a memory our town and our team will remember for years to come. 

Both teams played very well defensively, and although we didn't score a touchdown on offense, we were able to see lots of positive plays moving the ball up and down the field. There were a lot of players that had to step up and perform under the "Friday Night Lights" for the first time in their high school career; and they executed well. As both teams traded possessions back and forth, it wasn't until the 4th quarter when we were able to get the ball back from a turnover that was forced by our defense, that allowed our offense to drive down the field to get within field goal range. 

In the final :28 seconds, all the confidence was put on our Senior Kicker, Marcos Alvarado, who modeled and demonstrated energy, effort, and enthusiasm. As the kick was up and away, went through the uprights down the middle, Walter Joyce Stadium erupted with energy and excitement! 

That moment was special. This team is special. This town is special. This transformation is special!
