8-23-2023 Junior High One Act Play

Junior High theater teacher, Mrs. Belinda Hughes (28 years of service with Lytle) always does an amazing job with her students and directs their plays. Last school year, she and her students enjoyed a great deal of success - winning first place in the district competition with their performance of The Dear Departed, A Comedy in One Act by Stanley Houghton. While Mrs. Hughes is very proud of his entire cast and crew. She was especially proud of three sixth grade students who were cast in the lead roles. Now, you can enjoy this award-winning performance, brought to you by the high school students in Skull Studios. https://youtu.be/8ySlF-qEN4g

Mrs. Hughes adds, “I want to thank Mrs. Smith who was instrumental in bringing Theatre Arts to the junior high. These classes are proven to improve self-confidence, self-esteem, communication skills, collaboration, empathy, interpersonal skills and creativity. The middle school years are an awkward and complex phase in life filled with uncertainty, insecurities and changing relationships, so these skills and learning experiences are extremely important. Hundreds of Lytle students have benefited from these classes, which also open the opportunity for the UIL One Act Play competition. In the past six years, Lytle Junior High OAP students have earned five first place awards and one second place in the district UIL competition."

I personally would like to thank Mrs. Hughes for being patient as our high school Skull Studios students worked to finish this important project. It took us much longer to edit than expected, but it taught our video students the skills they needed to record and edit a multicamera video production with sitcom / stage production technical requirements. This is complex, time-consuming, but rewarding work!

We know you will enjoy this video thanks to the grit and determination of all who worked hard on this collaborative, cross-campus project:
