Why is there such a focus on making sure students are counted present?
All campus principals stress the importance of engagement and the need for remote learners to have the same quality experience as in-person learners. Thus the emphasis on time and attendance. Funding is not an issue as we are held harmless the first 12 weeks of school regardless of average daily attendance. The emphasis on attendance has to do with getting credit for the course. We are following the guidelines set by TEA for remote learners to be counted in attendance so they receive credit for the course. The principals have high expectations, as the daily schedule would exceed the minimum requirements by TEA so remote students would have the opportunity to receive the same instruction as in-person students.
