Lytle Schools Close March 16-20 To Prevent Spread of COVID-19

Dear Lytle ISD Families,

In collective agreement with other public school districts in our surrounding area, Lytle ISD is closing our schools and canceling all school-related events March 16 - 20 to help control the number of new cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

This cautionary action is necessary given the declaration of a public health emergency by the City of San Antonio, Medina County Health Department’s request for social distancing for groups larger than 500, and the alert from the World Health Organization designating COVID-19 as a pandemic.

We do not make this decision lightly. Closing schools presents difficulties for parents and guardians, but we are following guidance from authorities who indicate these measures will better ensure the long-term health and safety of children, staff, and the larger community.

Please continue to check for updates on the following:

  • The UIL Deputy Director has suspended all extracurricular competitions through March 29th. Information about practices for Lytle students will be communicated by coaches through Remind.
  • The district is finalizing logistics for online learning options for students.
  • Our Child Nutrition department will announce plans to address children's nutritional needs while school is out.
  • We will also take this week to further clean schools and buses and resupply custodial and nursing supplies.

At this time, we do not anticipate extending the school year in order to “make up” the days from this closure. As this issue evolves, Lytle ISD Leadership remains in close communication with local and state health authorities and will provide updates to our community.

Stay well and in good health,

Lytle ISD Superintendent of Schools
