  • 2-14-2020 Lessons from the Rings 2020 - Volume 1

February 13th, Valentines Eve, the thrower's for Lytle began their season. The high school did not have a complete team yet but we competed with the ones we had in a dual meet at Hondo's new track. Once again, we were placed out as far away as we could be from the runners. We began the year with new Personal Records. I really didn't get to see the discus competition up close but I ran the shot putt ring.

  • 2-14-2020 Pearsall Track Meet

Last night, February 13th, our 8th Grade boys traveled to Pearsall for their first Track and Field Meet. Despite only having one day of practice, all the athletes participated extremely well. The effort and dedication these boys showed was very impressive. As a coach, I am extremely proud of the way they competed and how flexible they were. If you see and/or know any of these boys, please congratulate them on a great job last night. We will have another track meet next Friday, February 21 in Hondo. I hope everyone has a blessed and wonderful weekend!

  • 2-12-2020 Girls Varsity Basketball Beats Dilley/Parent's

The girls finished their last home game last night, February 11th, and beat Dilley 45-27 in front of their home crowd. We won the game in the 3rd quarter once again outscoring our opponent 11-5. It was a great team win everyone and got valuable playing minutes that will help in the playoffs. Leading the Pirates was Kiara Nixon with 17 points she had a great game offensively and defensively. Noelia Medina followed with 11 and played well while we were in some foul trouble. Camryn Martinez, Autumn Frias and Eleni Keith all had 3 points. Rounding out the scoring was Kylie Mask with 2 and she took another charge for the year. Alex Naegelin and Abby Moreno finished with 2 also. The highlight of the game happened when I was able to call timeout with 1:30 left on the clock and let my 5 Seniors finish the game. Kiara Nixon was driving to the basket for a layup and saw Cheyenne Vega on her other side and she dished the ball to her and Cheyenne scored her first 2 points of the year in her last home game as a Pirate!!! If you would have been there and saw this in action it would have made you feel so proud to be a PIRATE!!!! We finished the season 8-2 in District with the 2nd Place title and 11-18 for the year. We are playoff bound!!!

  • 2-11-2020 Varsity Boys Basketball Recap vs. Cotulla and Natalia

Over the last week the boys went 2-0 in district play with wins over Cotulla 72-64 and Natalia 70-47. John Martinez averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds this past week to lead the team. Senior John Martinez and Junior Logan Wilson have not only played well but have gotten to a point where their leadership on the court is priceless. During timeouts and play on the court, they take turns coaching the players that may be on the floor with them. Just amazing!!!

The girls beat Natalia Friday night, February 7th, in a loud and packed gym 51-36 to bring home the Rivalry Trophy for the 4th year in a row. We outscored the Mustangs 13-0 in the 3rd quarter, that’s when the game went in our favor. With 2 starters in foul trouble, FRESHMEN Natalie Pacheco came off the bench and gave us some crucial minutes. Leading the Pirates was Kiara Nixon and Noelia Medina both with 16 points. We will finish our last District game tonight here in Lytle with Parents’ Night against Dilley tip off 6:00. Hopefully I can have playoff information soon right now it’s going to be either Aransas Pass or Skidmore they are tied. So proud of this team and how they have played the last month. Go Pirates!!!

  • 2-7-2020 8th Grade Girls Finish Season Undefeated

Last night, February 6th, in Dilley the 8th Grade girls finished their Junior High campaign undefeated as Junior High Girls basketball players. Through the journey players have changed, injuries have happened, shots have been made and missed and the ladies have matured as players. The one thing that really hasn't changed is the joy these ladies seem to have in playing together. This is a very close group on ladies and the future looks very bright. So bright you might have to watch them with sunglasses on. It was funny listening to some students from Dilley talk about the team as they warmed up. They said the only girl who was good was Calyssa. Everyone else wasn't good. Last time I checked basketball takes five on a team. All five of our ladies are better than any five that another team can put on the court. We play defense and have held all teams to average 13 points in scoring against us this year. In the district we other teams averaged only 9 points against us while Lytle averaged 39.8 points.

  • 2-7-2020 JH Girls Basketball Undefeated for 2 Years Straight!!

I just wanted to brag about this group one more time before they start their next sport on Monday. They were truly undefeated not only in district play but at the La Vernia Tourney and Devine Tourney the last two years. The exciting thing is Poth has been added to our new district and these ladies have beat them the last two years so the confidence will be there next year. As you see on the attachment their record is phenomenal. Great group of student/athletes and I'm so excited to inherit them next year. To be losing three starters this year but reloading with this group is so exciting. Thank you to all the JH coaches that were involved in making this group so successful and their parents now the pressure is on me to continue their success!!! Thank you, Mrs. Stewart for recognizing them this morning and we will add these accomplishments to the trophy case.

  • 2-6-2020 Perfectly Paired Pirate Pen Pals

Lytle Varsity Football players took on a special Pen Pal project with third grade students at Lytle Elementary. At Lytle ISD teachers at all levels find creative ways to inspire students to read and write more, and that includes head football coach, R.T. McConathy. Not only did hundreds of written letters go back and forth between campuses, but football players made weekly visits to the elementary to greet students as they arrived at school. Players would make the most of those visits by spending time with their third grade Pen Pals, playing learning games, and encouraging each other. The football players enjoyed being leaders and mentors, and the third graders got to know their Friday Night Lights heroes a little better. Watch the video to see and hear for yourself how all the students involved got TONS of writing practice in, and LOVED every minute of it.

  • 2-6-2020 JV Girls Basketball vs. Cotulla

The fourth quarter was exciting and frustrating due to the fact we had several opportunities to extend the lead but did not. The game came down to the last 2 seconds as the score was tied 32-32. It was Cotulla’s possession and as the girl threw in the ball, Kaylee Diaz went for the steal and the girl fouled her as time expired. Thanks for earlier foul calls we were in Bonus so she was able to have an opportunity to shot 2 free throws. The referee cleared the floor- all players were at their benches and Kaylee was set to shoot. The gym was loud and her first shot was in and out. She had one more opportunity to get her team the win and with help from the backboard her second shot was Good.

  • 2-6-2020 Golf at Somerset Invitational

Great day for Lytle Golf. Yesterday, February 5th, we sent a “team” to the Somerset Invitational at Pleasanton Golf Club. The squad of Khye Stewart, Jace Harris, Bryson Duty and Hudson Mask finished in 6th place out of 8 teams. Considering that this was THE FIRST tournament for 3 of our golfers, we did fantastic. I was so proud of the way they conducted themselves on and off the course. Report time was 6:00 am and we tee’d off in 38-degree weather. Any golfers out there know how difficult that is.
