  • 10-15-2019 Lytle Cross Country District at Dilley

Your Lytle Cross Country team traveled down to Dilley yesterday, October 14th, for their final Meet of the regular season, the District 30-3A Cross Country Meet. Like most sports teams, staying healthy throughout the season is key for one's success. This year we were hit very hard with injuries. We had some that tried to do too much too quick, some that wore equipment that may have caused the problem, some ran through things instead of sitting and some of it was just bad luck. Regardless the reason, we had to compete without 2 of our best runners in both Varsity boys and Varsity girls. I told the runners before we got off the bus that we would find out if we had a program or not, if we were able to fill those spots with JV runners and not lose a beat. I can't say that we are quite just there yet, but we did have some great performances at a time we really needed them.

In the first set of the game the ladies did well communicating with each other and keeping one another motivated. In the second set they let frustration get the best of them and lost, which also carried over into the third set.

  • 10-14-2019 Varsity Football vs. Randolph

Last Friday night, October 11th, our boys traveled to Randolph High School and our youth and inexperience showed. Our young guys are making progress, but quality teams continue to give us fits. That is exactly what Randolph was, a quality football team/program.

  • 10-11-2019 8th Grade Football vs. Randolph

Last night, October 10th, we traveled to Randolph AFB. After spotting the Ro-Hawks 2 early scores, the score at halftime was 14-0. We took the 2nd half kick-off and drove 65 yds. The drive ended with a Touchdown pass from Jacob Guevara to Daniel Romero. After some back and forth with Randolph and 2 more scores by Jacob on Quarterback sneaks, the score, with 4 minutes left in the game, was Randolph 22, Lytle 20. The Ro-Hawks took the following kick-off to the house and put the game out of reach, 30-20.

  • 10-11-2019 JV Football vs. Randolph

That being said, this leads to how our JV football game vs. Randolph, October 10th, started out in the 1st half. We were faced with a huge challenge, and the fear of failing. With multiple players out due to grades and player misconduct throughout the week, we had a new starting Quarterback, Connor Redding, multiple players playing different positions, along with most of them playing in all 3 phases of the game (offense, defense, and all special teams) without coming off the field.

  • 10-11-2019 Freshman Volleyball vs. Natalia

On Tuesday, October 8th, the Freshman started out the night with what became a Natalia shut down. The girls were playing against some odds with only having 7 players. I was so proud of them and made sure that we highlighted what they were doing well so that we could build on that. The girls beat Natalia in two that evening 25-7 and 25-19. It was an exciting night and we are thankful for all of you who were able to make it out to the game.

  • 10-8-2019 JH Cross Country District Meet in Dilley

We began with the ladies racing the course. The “follow me” vehicle took a quicker turn making the course shorter than 2 miles, but every lady ran the same course, so I was fine with the race. The ladies ran with heart today in less humid but warm conditions. After the race was over the results were held until the awards ceremony. Because all the girls ran together it was difficult to tell who was a 7th Grader and who ran for the 8th Grade. I felt the ladies ran well and I want to highlight one 7th Grade young lady. Celeste Guerrero started on the first day of practice and she never missed a practice. She didn't practice fast, but she worked. At Devine she ran her first mile at 11:00. Today she ran a 9:03 and finished as the fifth girl at 20:13. Her effort allowed every lady to receive a 3rd place team medal and a plaque.

  • 10-8-2019 Week in Lytle Golf

Both golfers will play in the Harlan Fall Invitational at the Flying L golf course in Bandera. It is difficult for staff and students to attend these events because their tourney’s are during the work week. However, this tournament is a Friday-Saturday event and it would be great if you could come out to support these student/athletes on Saturday.

8th Grade Volleyball falls to Jourdanton. B-team struggled with communicating & passing but served well. A-team lost in 3. First set we struggled with breaking the serve. Last two sets were amazing. They hustled to the ball, great saves, and played as a team. So proud of their progress!

  • 10-4-2019 7th Grade Football vs. San Antonio Christian Academy

Well it was definitely an interesting trip for our mighty Pirates yesterday, October 3rd. Our 7th Grade boys went on the road to take on San Antonio Christian Academy. Our boys were a little intimidated to start but settled down and played some of their best football of the year. Our boys played primarily 8th Graders who didn’t know the kind of resolve our Pirates have in them when they face a challenge.

  • 10-4-2019 8th Grade Football vs. Holy Cross

Yesterday, October 3rd, our 8th Grade football team traveled to Wheatley Heights Sports Complex to play a very formidable Holy Cross team. The offense began the with a 7-minute drive led by Robert Guizar, Hector Anaya, Anthony Pedromo, Nathan Miller, Mario Diaz, Richard Hernandez, Elijah Martinez and Marcos Alvarado. The 12-play drive fizzled out on the 20-yard line. Holy Cross answered with a score on their first drive and led 7-0. In the 2nd quarter, Amadeus Trejo took the ball around the right side and scored on a 45-yard run, 7-7. Holy Cross scored twice more in the half and led 21-7. The 2nd half was a defensive struggle and the final was Holy Cross 28 Lytle 7. Defensive standouts were Rudy Cepeda, Rowdy Harvey, Jacob Guevara and Amadeus Trejo. The heart and determination our boys showed last night was inspiring. The Holy Cross coach made it a point to tell me that no other team had moved the ball against them as well as we did and that he was impressed at how our players conducted themselves on the field.

  • 10-3-2019 JH Cross Country at Devine Meet

Yesterday, October 2nd, the Junior High ran their last race before the District race next week in Dilley. The golf course in Devine is a challenge due to the inclines and soft sandy soil. All did well and as one boy from another team asked Luke Estrada, as he was giving high fives to the finishers of the race, "why is Lytle so good at Cross Country?" The answer is due to the hard work put in by each runner in Lytle.

  • 10-2-2019 JV Volleyball vs Jourdanton

Last night, October 1st, the JV ladies hosted Jourdanton and lost in 2 sets. 15-25 14-25 We were down two players, one with an injury and the other being sick. The ladies had to adapt to playing all around and different rotations on the court. Even though we lost the game, I am still proud of how hard the girls fought until the very end. They started to give up at one point but rallied back as much as they could against Jourdanton’s hits.
