  • 11-29-2023 Construction Class is Underway

My construction students have worked to build and complete our classroom.  This was a small project, but included skills for framing, layout, measuring, electrical, drywall, insulation, door and window installation and tool safety.  We are about 90% done and the kids have done a fantastic job with this small but challenging task.  We are planning to build a small, portable storage building in the spring if anyone is interested in purchasing.  Probably 8’x10’ or 8’x12’ all wood frame with panel siding, shingle roof, 36” entry door along with windows and electrical if desired.

  • 11-29-2023 Junior Varsity Girls Mighty 7 vs Devine

On November 28, 2023, the Junior Varsity girls took on Devine. The girls battled courageously and showed tremendous effort in a fast-paced game. Devine had enough players to fill three teams, and we had our Mighty 7. The toughest part of the game was trying to give breathers to the players. These girls gave it their all but came up short with the final score showing your Lady Pirates 33 - Devine 44.

  • 11-29-2023 Varsity Girls Basketball Beats Devine for the Second Time

The girls took the court on November 28, 2023, and it was not our typical start. We only scored 4 points in the first quarter with Calyssa Sevier going scoreless. So, we knew we had to go to our press and try to create some turnovers. The first quarter we were down 10-4, but we came alive in the second quarter and outscored Devine 18-4. Calyssa Sevier hit a half-court shot at the buzzard to take us in to halftime up 22-14. That shot was definitely our motivation to come out the second half and take control of the game. The third quarter was back and forth, but the Seniors took over in the 4th and we outscored Devine 25-13. We have been preaching blocking out and rebounding and last night we definitely improved in that area as we out rebounded Devine 35-32. We made Devine create 20 turnovers, and we had 13 steals from our press.

  • 11-28-2023 Varsity Boys Basketball Thanksgiving Recap

After last year's amazing run to the 3A UIL State Tournament, we have a very young group who are finding ways to win and finish games. This new group of Pirates understands the expectations and culture of playing fast, tough and finding the will to win. I couldn't ask for more. Senior Tristen Guevara has been the unsung hero to our success this year so far, averaging 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals per game. He's been able to find ways to come off the bench and hit shots at the right time to take us to victory. Younger brother, Sophomore Chase Guevara, the only returner with experience on the floor, has led the Pirates in scoring, averaging 14 points and 10 rebounds per game. It will be an interesting year to see where this brotherly dual will lead us. The Pirates will play at home today, November 28, 2023 at 7:30 pm vs Jourdanton. Come out and support the boys and girls tonight, starting at 6:15 pm.

  • 11-25-2023 Girls Varsity Basketball Southside Tournament During Thanksgiving Break

The girls finished the Southside Tourney with a 2nd place finish. They battled Uvalde and won 53-26 to advance them to the ship. We would face Cole again for the championship. The girls fell short 48-37 but they played a great game and fought until the end. The girls got a lot of games under their belt and we are coming together as a team. It was great bringing  home some hardware back to Lytle these seniors just keeping adding to the trophy case. Congratulations to Senior Captains Calyssa Sevier and Katara Whitfield for making the All-Tournament Team. So proud of these young ladies. Combined for both games Calyssa Sevier had 43 points and Katara Whitfield with 23 points.

  • Vote for Mike Trevino

11-15-2023 Please vote: Time to show some LOVE for our Lytle Pirate Head Football Coach Mike Trevino!

The work of our Lytle Pirate Head Football Coach, Mike Trevino, surpassed expectations. The results he achieved on the field this year extended into the classroom. The positive effects on his players' character is clear to their teachers. Not just our school, but for our entire community, one man has taught huge lessons on the power of love. And in the Texas Football Scene, Coach Trevino's transformational leadership did not go unnoticed.

  • 11-14-2023 Junior Varsity Girls Basketball at Navarro

Last night, November 13, 2023, the Junior Varsity girls traveled to Navarro for a basketball game and ended up with a loss of 26-52. The girls showed much improved energy and effort in the second half, flying to the ball, diving for loose balls, and encouraging one another. The team roster includes Genesis Martinez who scored 4 points and 3 steals, Cayleigh Smith played important key minutes with 3 blocks and 4 rebounds, Sofia Stewart ended with 8 points and 7 rebounds, K'Lnn Perez also played key minutes, and played with an injured hand finishing with 2 steals and 3 deflections. Claire Canales ended with 4 points and 10 rebounds, Adrianne Muraira was our Top Scorer with 10 points and 6 steals, and Jaylen Villareal finished the night with 4 steals 3 rebounds.

  • 11-13-2023 Lady Pirates Start off 2-0

The girls took the court on Friday, November 10, 2023, with an early 5 o’clock start time and took the win over SA Christian, 63-38. They did not get a scrimmage, so they were not sure how they would respond together as a new team with many new faces. However, the girls came out and did some really great things. They had 20 points in transition and scored 28 points from their turnovers. They are not as fast as last year, but once they get into basketball shape, that will definitely improve their defensive game. They had 17 steals and 48 of the points were in the paint. They need to work on turnovers, they had 19 but once they get some chemistry, I see that number dropping.

  • 11-10-2023 2023 Lytle Pirate Football (Season In Review)

In May of 2023, nobody, including myself, could've written a script better for the Lytle Pirate Football program than God just did. I knew exactly what we needed to do to restore, refuel, and revamp a community, but God just did it better!

  • 11-9-2023 National Early Signing Day for Calyssa Sevier!

Yesterday, November 8, 2023, was a very special day for Lytle High School as we watched Calyssa Sevier sign for a full Athletic Scholarship to Division 2 Midwestern State University. We have not had an athlete in the last 12 years be able to sign early on this day. Calyssa continues to make history and break records and her basketball season does not start until tomorrow.

  • 11-6-2023 Lytle Pirate Cross Country

This is my 21st year coaching Cross Country. It took 18 years to get both teams to State at the same time.   In the last 3 years, only ONE school, Lucas Lovejoy, in the ENTIRE STATE OF TEXAS (in UIL) has more State Cross Country Trophies than Lytle.

  • 11-5-2023 Lytle Pirate Cross Country, Back to Back State Team Medalists

The boys entered the day as the defending State Champion and were ranked second at the start. The quote which was written to the boys was by Vince Lombardi. You feel your age when you have to explain who Vince Lombardi was. “We run to win, not just be in the race.”  The boys got out well and at the first 800m tree they were between 2:07 and 2:14. As the race progressed, the mile and two-mile progress had Lytle leading. At the two mile point our lads were between 14 and 36th. However, that last mile we ran but Great Oaks ran better. When the dust settled, Lytle was beaten by five points to end this season in 2nd.

  • 11-3-2023 Junior Varsity Football Falls to Crystal City

What a season it has been for the Junior Varsity Pirates! These young men have shown tremendous growth throughout the season not only as a team but as individuals. The coaches are extremely proud of their accomplishments this football season. On Thursday, November 2, 2023, was a tough physical game but the Pirates fought every second of the game and never backed down from the opponent. The game was a lot closer than the score indicated and these Pirates were in a great position to leave with a win, but the chips didn't quite fall where we wanted them to. If you see these young men around, please congratulate them on one heck of a season!  Crystal City 24 - Lytle 6
