  • 9-22-2023 7th Grade Football vs Pearsall

Yesterday, September 21, 2023, the 7th Grade football team hosted the Pearsall Mavericks. The Mavericks started the game with an 11-minute drive for a touchdown. In Junior High games, that means that we first touched the ball with 3 minutes left in the half. It took us 12 seconds to score our first touchdown as Burl Jopling ran back the kickoff behind some great blocking. The rest of the game was a back-and-forth struggle. The intensity on the field was unique for a 7th grade contest. The game ended in a tie. Both schools respected each other. This was evident from the conversations I heard as they were shaking hands after the game. We are off this week. We’ll be hosting the Poteet Aggies on October 5, 2023.

  • 9-22-2023 8th Grade Football vs Pearsall

A few mishaps by our secondary put us in a tough spot, but outstanding defensive play by Michael Scotello kept the game close. AJ Cantu and Angel De La Rosa shined like the North Star and put on a running display that would even make Walter Payton proud.

  • 9-15-2023 8th Grade Football Recap

After a straight butt kicking on September 7, 2023, the boys went to work during practice with a totally different mindset. They dedicated themselves to unselfish football and a team-first philosophy. On Thursday, September 14, 2023, our line blocked better than ever, and because of that, they allowed our backfield to showcase their talents, led by AJ Cantu, Angel De La Rosa, and Matthew Wimer.

  • 9-15-2023 Junior High Cross Country FEAST Invitational and Bandera Invitational Recap

The Lytle Junior High Cross Country teams attended the Feast Invitational Meet on September 2, 2023, and the Bandera Invitational meet on September 9, 2023. The teams have shown excellent progression day in and day out. Whether it's learning the importance of getting out fast, pacing, placing, throwing on surges, attacking hills, or capitalizing on an opponent that has broken form. These kids have learned every aspect of this sport we call Cross Country. I highly encourage you to attend a Meet in the near future. You will not be disappointed.

  • 9-15-2023 7th Grade Football at Natalia

Yesterday, September 14, 2023, the Junior High Pirates travelled to Natalia for 7th Grade edition of the “The Legacy Bowl”. Get accustomed to hearing this, “It was the Burl Joplin show”. If any of you remember seeing Clayton Joplin play at Walter Joyce Field, you know what I’m talking about. The young man does amazing things on a football field. However, he’ll be the first to acknowledge how well his teammates did for him to be successful. The offensive line was led by Chevy Frias and Andrew Frausto and the defense was outstanding. Our puppies are becoming dogs. Christian Cantu, Elliot Mata, Brayden Robinette and Joseph Jimenez stood out in a great defensive effort. Special shout out to Ryan Hendrickson and James Thompson for stepping up at multiple positions after we had pregame circumstances beyond our control. When shaking hands, I heard comments like, “Be humble”, “Respect ‘em”, “Tell ‘em good game”. Our coaching staff couldn’t be prouder.

  • 9-8-2023 7th Grade Football vs Navarro Panthers

Yesterday afternoon, September 7th, 2023, the 7th grade football team kicked off their season against the Navarro Panthers. We, coaches, usually get to see our young football players grow up throughout the season. It is always satisfying in Week 10 to remember how young and naïve they were at the first game. Well, we got a season’s worth in 1 game. In the first half, this team had a “deer in the headlights” look about them. In the second half, they looked like bona fide football players. It’s a great group of boys and we are looking forward to the rest of the season. Yesterday’s game was in a scrimmage format.

  • 9-8-20203 Junior High Volleyball at Crystal City

On September 7, 2023 the Lady Pirates Junior High volleyball team traveled the long road to Crystal City. A special thank you and shout out to Armando Esquibel for providing us with an air-conditioned bus; once again, we found ourselves in another gym without air conditioning. Crystal City was very apologetic, they, like many, were dealing with hot temperatures and ACs were working overtime.

  • 9-7-2023 Junior High Volleybal at Natalia

On August 31, 2023, the Lady Pirates Junior High Volleyball team traveled the short distance to our favorite rivals in Natalia. The ladies were so excited coming off their performance of last week and were ready to play. Although they walked into a hot gym, again, this did not detour the girls; they even seemed more determined than ever to compete.

  • 9-1-2023 Junior High Cross Country at Medina Valley Pantehr Invitational Meet

The Lytle Junior High Cross Country teams attended the Medina Valley Panther Invitational this past weekend, August 26, 2023. The teams displayed great showings, coming off the best summer base training in the history of the Lytle Junior High cross-country program. Despite the raging heat and humidity, our Pirates found solutions, not excuses. In the 7th Grade girls' division, the dynamic duo of Lila Cortinas and Annalise Quintanilla led the way, placing 3rd and 4th out of 76 runners. We did not assemble a 7th Grade girls' team this time, but we look forward to it soon.
