  • 3-3-2022 Pirate Bands are SUPERIOR!

The High School Band performed on Wednesday afternoon, and also earned a Superior rating from all 3 judges in the Concert portion, AND all 3 judges in Sight Reading.  Earning a 1st division rating in both Concert and Sight Reading, coupled with the 1st division rating that the Pirate Band earned at the UIL Marching Competition in October qualifies the Pirate Band for a Sweepstakes award as well!  This is the 4th consecutive Sweepstakes award for the Pirate Band, and this is the first time in the history of Lytle ISD that both the JH Band and the HS Band have earned perfect scores from the UIL judges!

  • 3-1-2022 Junior High Sweepstakes!

Today, March 1, 2022, the Junior High band traveled to Hondo to compete in our UIL Concert and Sight-Reading evaluation. This is the first time since 2019 that our students traveled to perform their UIL concert music. Last year we performed in our auditorium. I am so excited to tell you the kids earned a 1st Division in both concert and sight-reading. In fact, they earned a 1st Division from all 6 judges.

  • 1-11-2022 Pirate Band has an All State Musician!

  • 12-5-2021 ATSSB Region Band Results!

23 members of the Lytle High School Band competed against approximately 375 other band students from schools across our music region, in the first round of the All State Band audition process. Of the 23 students that auditioned, 13 earned a position in one of the two ATSSB Region Bands, which ties our LHS record for the most kids to make a Region Band. On top of that, 9 of those 13 students are advancing to the second round (Area) of the All State Band audition process.

  • 10-24-2021 Pirate Band Area Update

Yesterday, October 23, 2021, the Pirate Band set sail for their 3rd consecutive trip to the UIL Area Marching Competition. After an overwhelming sendoff including a police escort and lots of support from our Pirate Band Family, we traveled through fog and rain to Beeville. The band competed against 29 other 1st division marching bands with one unifying goal in mind, to perform their best so far. This incredibly talented group of students did not let us down, they left everything on the field, including new visuals and marching drill that had not been performed at a competition before. (They learned them all in less than 1 week!) It was by far the band's best performance this year!

  • 10-18-2021 Pirate Band gets 4th Consecutive 1st Division!

Saturday, October 16, 2021, the Fighting Pirate Band did it again, earning their 4th consecutive Marching Band First Division! To say I’m proud of these kids is a major understatement, they have really stepped up to the challenge, and they left everything they had out on the field. The support from our community, our Athletic Teams, and Administration was amazing as well; with multiple members of the football team in attendance to show their love for the Pirate Band. I am so incredibly proud to be a Lytle Pirate, and I’m super happy to have such an amazing staff of MJ Robles, Jason Keown, and Bertie Salazar, as well as all the people that support us in the district.

  • 10-11-2021 Pirate Band Update

This past weekend, October 9, 2021, the Lytle Pirate Band competed at both the Cotulla Cowboy Round Up, as well as the God’s Country Marching Festival in Hondo. It was an exhausting day getting home late after an away game, but this group of kids pulled it off. I am incredibly pleased to announce that the Band earned the Best Drum Majors award and 2nd place overall in Cotulla, then they followed that up with a 3rd place finish in Hondo!

  • 9-28-2021 Pirate Band at Beeville ISD Marching Festival

Last Saturday, September 25, 2021, the Lytle Pirate Band competed at the Beeville ISD Marching Festival. There were 9 bands in the 3A classification, 5 of which are regular contenders at the Area and State level of competition. Our band performed the best show that they have performed so far this year, which earned them 6th place overall!

  • 6-14-2021 All-State Band

This past week I had the honor of taking Emelia Garcia to Melissa to perform with the ATSSB (association of Texas small school bands) All-State Band. Emelia was in the concert band which consisted of 1A-3A schools. When we arrived she had one last audition in which she became the 5th best flute player in the state.

  • 5-28-2021 Flute Quartet Excels at State Contest

Our flute quartet that qualified for the State UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest received their results today, and they were awarded a 1st Division, which is a rare accomplishment at the State level! The quartet was composed of graduates Emelia Garcia and Emma Polomsky and Sophomores (soon to be Juniors) Cambri Davila and Natalie Williams. Thank you to MJ Robles for all the work she did with these girls, and for all the work they put in to end the year on a “high note” for the Pirate Band!

  • 5-18-2021 We're Going to Miss You Papa Fender - Lytle Band Students' Tribute to Mr. Mark Fender

Throughout this year, a group of Lytle band/video students, Damian Ramos, Donald Glasen, Elias Moore, Rafael Pacheco, Bella Lopez, Greg Martinez and Emiliano Peralta plotted in secret to celebrate (lament) their beloved Band Director's retirement. Mr. Mark Fender, who sometimes answered to their "Papa Fender" nickname, was delighted by the surprise-showing of this video at the Band Banquet on April 30, 2021. It is now YouTube-published for the rest of our Pirate Family to enjoy as the 2020-2021 school year comes to a close and we wish Mark Fender well in his next adventure.

  • 3-3-2021 Junior High Band Concert and Sight Reading Results

Today, March 3rd, the Junior High had UIL Concert and Sight Reading Evaluations. It was so close. Unfortunately, we did not earn a trophy but our students still had an great performance. The Junior High earned a 2-1-2 rating on stage and that comes out to a 2nd division. In the eyes of UIL, a 2nd division is considered excellent. In sight reading, we earned a 2nd division as well. It’s been a tough year and a half and I truly felt our students did the very best they could. Unfortunately, too many mental errors and small mistakes added up. Not having a single student with contest experience due to covid did not help us any today as nerves got the better of some students. We will take our judges comments to heart as we continue working to come out stronger next year.

  • 3-3-2021 Band Earns Sweepstakes Third Year in a Row!

The band performed this morning in the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest, and for the third year in a row (but only the 7th time ever in the history of Lytle ISD), the band has earned a UIL Sweepstakes! A Sweepstakes is a cumulative award earned by bands receiving a top rating, 1st Division, in all three UIL band competitions: Marching, Concert, and Sight-Reading. The “third consecutive” Sweepstakes is a big deal for us. Last year was the first time we had ever earned back-to-back Sweepstakes, and now we have started a real streak!

  • 2-22-2021 Band - UIL Solo & Ensemble Results

Just before the winter weather began, eight of our Pirate Band members competed in the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest on Saturday, February 13th. Due to COVID concerns, each District is “hosting” their own contest this year rather than traveling to a central location. Although that adjustment gave the contest a very different feel this year, our students had worked hard and were very well prepared. All seven of our events received 1st Division ratings, and our flute quartet met the additional criteria required to advance to the State Solo & Ensemble Contest in May.

  • 1-25-2021 Exciting Junior High Band Honors

Just as with the High School Band, Junior High band students competed in virtual All-Region Band auditions. I’m so excited to say that our students represented Lytle very well. When students compete, those that make the band are placed into one of two bands, Symphonic and Concert. Symphonic is the top band with the top students from our Region. Concert band is the second band. Even though we are unable to have a clinic and concert this year, the following students have bragging rights for the next year and will still receive their All-Region Band patch.

  • 12-15-2020 High School Region Band Honors

This past weekend, December 12, Area band directors judged our virtual All-Region Band auditions. This was a new experience for everyone. Beginning December 5th, students had the opportunity to record their All-Region audition music and submit it for verification. Beginning December 12th directors were able to listen and judge recordings. I am so happy to report that we had 9 students make the All-Region Band.
