Friday afternoon, October 25, 2021, the Pirates traveled to San Antonio for our last away game of the season to battle the Cougars of West Campus and this battle was intense! In the longest match in the history of Lytle volleyball, with a time of two hours and forty minutes, the Pirates secured the win over the Cougars 5 sets (3-2). Our Pirates won the first set, lost set 2 and set 3 and with great teamwork won set 4 and set 5 with some great serves from #14 Gonzalez, #10 Scotello, #1 Lopez, #3 Sprenger, #6 Diaz, and #15 Granato and some great digs from #3 Sprenger, #4 Patino, #12 Garcia, and #2 Martinez. At one point in the match, the game was so intense, I felt a little light-headed…

  • 10-20-2021 Varsity Volleyball at Natalia

On Tuesday October 19, 2021, the Pirates traveled up the road to compete against the Mustangs on Natalia. The Pirates came out and played with a lot of heart and desire. I have never been prouder of these young ladies. We started strong in the first two sets with the score looking like a Yo-Yo, moving up and down as we played our hearts out! As we lost to the Mustangs in three sets. I must say the score did not reflect their performance! The Pirates had some amazing defensive digs from Martinez, Patino, Lopez, and Sprenger and hits from Gonzalez, Diaz, and Scotello to keep our Pirates in the match.

  • 10-18-2021 Varsity Volleyball vs Dilley

Friday afternoon, Oct. 15, 2021, we hosted the Dilley Wolves in an exciting 3 set match. The Pirates started the set with some receiving errors but were able to clean it up. Unfortunately, we could not take this set and lost. The next two sets our Pirates played with more determination and made the game exciting. The Pirates had some great saves, passes, sets, and kills that had the crowd at the edge of their seats. The Pirates lose to the Wolves in three sets. I am proud of these young ladies; they have displayed determination and have had to deal with adversities but they are still here and giving their all. We are extremely grateful for the dedication to themselves, their teammates and coaches, as well as to the program.

  • 10-14-2021 Varsity Volleyball at Jourdanton

On Tuesday October 12, 2021, the Volleyball team traveled to Jourdanton to take on the Squaws, as we play the last 5 games of the season. Our Pirates came out determined to compete against the Squaws. The Pirates struggled with serve-receive the entire evening. There was a moment when the Pirates had a good rally and were able to control the game but we could hang-on to that momentum. The team is adjusting and working well with two new players to the squad, to help with the loss of two key players who are out due to knee injury. The Pirates lost to Jourdanton in three sets. Thank you to all for your great support and encouraging words to the ladies and the team.

  • 10-11-2021 Varsity Volleyball at Poth

On Friday, October 8, 2021, we traveled to Poth for the battle of the PIRATES. Poth started the set with some strategical serving and Lytle just couldn’t find the rhythm to stop Poth in the first set. In the second set Lytle’s Pirates were able to put up points but not enough to win the set. We struggled defensively, we had some great served and a couple of kills but we just could not stop the Poth Pirates. Lytle falls to Poth in three sets.

  • 10-6-2021 Junior Varsity Volleyball vs Karnes City

The Lady Pirates competed, but ultimately fell at home against Karnes City on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Serving, which has been the strongest asset for the Junior Varsity Pirates, was not as dominant as in the past two victories. Even with their serving woes, the girls fought hard throughout the entire match, and nearly took the first set.

  • 10-4-2021 Junior Varsity Volleyball vs. Poteet

The Lady Pirates had a fantastic showing at home against Poteet on Friday, October 1, 2021, sweeping the Lady Aggies. Every one of the girls contributed to the win in a big way; the back row had their best game of the year passing, and the entire team served up over 20 aces. Special recognition goes out to Freshman Arianna Garcia and Sophomore Lola Patino; both players played in the Varsity match beforehand, and the extra work didn't slow them down.

  • 9-27-2021 Varsity Volleyball vs San Antonio West Campus

Friday, September 24, 2021, Varsity Volleyball hosted the Cougars from SA West Campus. The Pirates won the coin flip and secured the first serve. Unfortunately, we didn’t communicate well and the Cougar’s ended up winning the first 3 point to start the game. Coach Cordero quickly called a time out and had a pep talk with the ladies. The ladies started working together and with a couple of ace serves from Gonzalez and Lopez, as well as some hits from Diaz, Hutton, and Scotello, the Lady Pirates won the 1st set. On to the second set, our Pirates started slow again with the first rotation ending with each girl serving only once. West Campus took advantage of our serving errors and add points on the board for them. Pirates won set two.

  • 9-22-2021 Varsity Volleyball at Cotulla

Yesterday evening, September 21, 2021, we traveled to Cotulla to take on the Cowboys. With one of our main setters out, Elysa Aleman, due to a knee injury, this Pirate team stepped up to the challenge. Lopez, filling in for the injured Aleman, returned to the position she played since middle school and played it well. The scores were close in each set but the Pirates came out Victorious, beating the Cowboys in three sets. They are starting to believe in the process and continue to make improvements.

  • 9-18-2021 Varsity Volleyball vs. Natalia

The Lady Pirates played with heart, desire and lots of determination against the Mustangs of Natalia, September 17, 2021. Although we lost in three sets, the scores do not reflect how the well these ladies played and came together after #7 Aleman went down with a knee injury early in the first set. #1 Lopez stepping up and filling in as a setter. The Lady Pirates had to readjust their strategy to work together to battle the ‘Stangs. Going into the third set, teamwork and trust kept the Pirates giving the ‘Stangs a run for their money but serving errors ended our fight with a loss.

  • 9-14-2021 Junior High Volleyball vs Poth

Last night, September 13, 2021, the Junior High Girls’ Volleyball took on the Poth Pirates. We improved on some things like our serves, but the girls are learning a new defense and it was a bit overwhelming and confusing at times. They will get it down with practice and repetition. But for now, they need to have patience and trust the game they are learning. Covid was hard on the learning curve for volleyball; as in so many other areas. We will get everyone where they need to be to succeed.
