  • 3-1-2022 Girls Road Trip Ends Saturday against Bishop but made Elite 8!

The girls had a quick turnaround and played Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 1:00PM in Seguin against a good physical Bishop team. We came out and we were within 10 points, 26-16, but we just missed a lot of shots and I know fatigue was a factor from pressing the entire game on Friday night. We could just not stop Bishop, they were bigger and our press just was not effective on them. We lost 61-31 to end our basketball run.

  • 3-1-2022 Girls Defeat London and are Regional Semi Final Champs! Elite 8!

The girls traveled to Seguin on Friday night, February 18, 2022, and beat London 62-44. Our defense and transition game were our best all season. The guards from London just could not handle the pressure. We had 14 steals and created 15 turnovers. We grabbed 34 rebounds and did a great job keeping London out of the paint.

  • 2-23-2022Girls Basketball Win Regional Quarterfinals! We are in the Sweet 16! First Girls Team to make it to Regional Tourney!

First, we want to thank everyone for all the support and love while leaving Lytle yesterday, February 22, 2022, for the game and when we returned home last night. Our Mayor, Mr. Gonzales is the best. He had Ada arrange it for us to get escorted back into Lytle and then to see all the fans at Whataburger was awesome! The Legacy gym was packed with Lytle fans screaming and cheering the girls on!

  • 2-23-2022 Varsity Boys Basketball Bi-District Playoff Recap

Last night, February 22, 2022, the Pirates season ended, losing to Edna High School, 58-50, in the first round of the playoffs. The Pirates had not lost in the 1st round of the playoffs since 2018, so the early exit of the playoffs was disappointing. The three-year Bi-District streak came to an end at the buzzer, but this minor setback is setting up our Junior group for a greater comeback next season.

  • 2-21-2022 Girls Basketball Are Area Champs!

The girls beat Nixon-Smiley in Seguin on Friday night, February 18, 2022, in front of a great Lytle crowd! From tipoff, the girls’ full court press was on fire and Nixon could not handle the pressure. We had 22 steals and scored 38 points from their turnovers. We ran the floor well in transition and scored 20 points in that category.

  • 2-16-2022 Girls Basketball Win Bi District! Moving on to AREA!

We came out strong on defense and put Tidehaven in foul trouble early. Our press took over and Tidehaven just could not handle the pressure. At the half, we were up by 21. The third quarter we came out slow and only scored six points. Then in the fourth we came out and just ran away with the game. The last 2 ½ minutes we took the starters out, allowing the second group with Katara to finish off the game.

  • 2-9-2022 Lytle Girls Basketball Go Back-to-Back Champs!

The girls did it! They officially claimed the District Title last night, February 8, 2022, in Dilley. They have worked so hard and we have battled through some difficulties but they never gave up, it only brought them back stronger. I am so happy and proud of how they have represented Lytle this far. Now it is time to achieve another goal to make it past the first round of the playoffs!

  • 2-8-2022 Varsity Boys Basketball vs Poth

This past Friday night, February 4, 2022, the boys took on the Poth Pirates for a share of the District title but fell short, losing 57-54. The boys held the lead most of the game, but key turnovers in the fourth quarter and missing 14 free throws throughout the game eventually helped Poth get the win. Although the boys fell short of winning a District title this year, they have secured a playoff spot and will be going for a 4th straight Bi-District Championship with a win in the first round of the playoffs. Our expectation has always been to win in the playoffs, so the boys know they must continue to work over the next two weeks to reach that goal.

  • 2-8-2022 Varsity Girls Beat Poth and take the LEAD in District!

What a great night it was for the girls, Friday night, February 4, 2022. Playing in a full gym with so many fans to cheer them on, it was a playoff atmosphere. I think we were the only two teams that got to play on Friday and I want to thank Mrs. Smith again for letting us play. The girls knew everything was on the line, we needed a win to take the lead in District. Our defense was what got the win. We scored 22 points on their turnovers from our press and 21 points in transition. We ran the floor well and had 17 steals.

  • 2-2-2022 The Magnificent Seven-Varsity Boys Basketball vs Cotulla

Last night, February 1, 2022, the Pirates rolled into Cotulla seven strong and did not miss a beat. The Pirates won 71-23, keeping us in the hunt for the District Title. Down a few players, we decided not to press and just play solid half-court man defense and every Pirate available to play mastered the game plan beautifully. Seniors Caleb Wood, Jose Cortez, Emanuel Garcia and Juniors Jordan Balderaz, Malakai Castro, Jaelen Guevara, and Eli Vega executed the defense all night and held the Cotulla Cowboys to only 12 points by the end of the third quarter. Offensively, Junior Jaelen Guevara led all scorers with 26 points, while Junior Malakai Castro added 16 points with 12 points being from the 3-point line. The Pirates are now 11-1 in District.

  • 02-02-2022 Girls Take a Loss To Cotulla!

The girls took a hard loss in Cotulla last night, February 1, 2022. The girls had their moments but just did not have enough consistent plays to take a lead on the Cowgirls. Calyssa Sevier had an amazing night with 35 points. Karata Whitfield had 12 points. However, the rest of the team struggled offensively. We shot 16/52 and nothing was falling for the team.

  • 1-28-2022 7th Grade Boys Basketball vs Karnes City

Yesterday evening, January, 27, 2022, the Junior High Pirates took on Karnes City for our last home game of the season.   The boys started off slow, but after settling down, they put pressure on Karnes City with their stellar defense and high-flying offense. The boys did an excellent job of coming out strong in the second half & distributing the ball as they put out a 22-point third quarter! It was a great showing of teamwork, energy, and effort all around from this young talented group of young men!

  • 1-26-2022 Girls Beat Poteet, Parents Night, and the Best Birthday!

What a night in Lytle last night, January 25, 2022. The girls picked up another wonderful TEAM win, beating Poteet! We scored on all 29 turnovers Poteet made, scored 32 points in the paint, and had 17 steals. At the half, we were up 34-13. We did a fantastic job coming out in the 3rd and scoring 15. We had been struggling the last few games in the 3rd quarter, but not last night. The one thing we must do a better job of is shooting free throws! The girls all got great minutes that will help as we prepare for two big games next week! We need both wins to return as District Champs! We will not be in action until Tuesday, February 1, as we travel to Cotulla to face a good squad!

  • 1-24-2022 Varsity Boys Basketball vs Jourdanton

This past Friday night, January 21, 2022, the Pirates took on the Jourdanton Indians and won 80-48. From the tip-off, the Pirates defense was on full display. The defensive pressure from baseline to baseline was the best it's been all season. Every dribble, every pass made by a Jourdanton player was suffocated by two pirates constantly, pressing all game.

  • 1-24-2022 Varsity Girls Beat Jourdanton!

The girls got a big win in Jourdanton on Friday night, January 21, 2022, scoring 75 points and holding Jourdanton to only 30! Another great TEAM win in spite of still being down a starter, and Rose Scotello played her best game of the year! The last few weeks we have been short players and someone has always stepped up and shined, but Friday was Rose’s night! As a team, we scored 34 points off turnovers and scored 48 points in the paint. We had 26 steals and made Jourdanton commit 43 turnovers. Everyone played and got great minutes and that will definitely help in the postseason. The girls remain in 1st place but have four more games to go! We are now 11-1 in District and 21-8 for the year!

  • 1-20-2022 8th Grade Boys Basketball vs Cotulla

Last night, January 19, 2022, in what became a very shortened week due to the holiday and inclement weather schedule shift, the 8th Grade boys' basketball team took on the Cotulla Cowboys. The boy's plan was simple: give a ton of energy and effort on the defensive end and it would translate to points on the offensive end. From tipoff, pressure was applied that forced Cotulla into early turnovers and let us get into our offensive sets. On the offensive end, we kept their defense moving around chasing the ball with some good passing and ball movement, which led to open shots that were falling for us almost all night!
