Our Stories

  • 3-4-2020 Varsity Boys BB Playoffs/ Awards

The 2019-2020 Basketball season has come to an end, and it was one for the ages. The boys lost this past Friday to 7th ranked CC London 78-63 in the area championship. The boys played hard and had CC London on the ropes the entire night but our Achilles heel all year caught up to us as the team missed 21 free throws. That was the difference maker. As I reflect on what these boys accomplished this year, I couldn't be any prouder; a winning overall record, 2nd place finish in district, a BI-DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP which is preached in our program as a great year when you can win in the playoffs.

  • 2-25-2020 Bi-District Varsity Boys Basketball Playoff vs George West

Last night, February 24th, the Pirates traveled to Falls City to take on George West HS for the 2020 Bi-District playoff game. The Pirates started off with bang pressuring the ball and giving George West all they could handle which led to a 18-7 first quarter lead. The Pirates went into half leading 35-24. The second half was a different story as George West fought back and hit some big shots to keep the second half close. The Pirates fought adversity and foul trouble in the 4th to pull out the win 73-70. John Martinez led all scorers with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Freshman Jordan Balderas had a big 4th quarter with 8 points and 8 rebounds to keep us in the game. I'm so proud of this group, they continue to be resilient and find ways as a team to play together and get big wins this season. The Pirates will head to the second round of the playoffs this Friday with playoff info going out tomorrow once finalized.

  • 2-19-2020 Varsity Girls Basketball Falls to Skidmore by 7 Points

It is hard writing my last write up of the season when I am not ready for it to end. The girls represented District 30 last night with Pirate Pride and fought hard but lost to Skidmore by 7 points, 42-35. We finished the first quarter and tied it 5-5. Going into halftime we were only down by 8, we talked about needing to come out in the third quarter big but only 2 points were scored by both teams. We outscored Skidmore in the fourth 11-8 but going flat in that third quarter was the game changer that went their way. Leading the Pirates was Senior Kiara Nixon with 12 points, she was our offensive leader all season stat wise. Senior Eleni Keith having the best game all around with 9 points and showing great leadership all year long. Junior Kylie Mask my all-time defensive player taking another defensive charge last night had 8 points. Senior Autumn Frias had 3 and played her best year of basketball for Lytle. Junior Abby Moreno off the bench sank 2 free throws and had a great year with the minutes she played. Junior Noelia Medina had 1 point but her effort was there all night contributing in other ways she transitioned playing down low so well this year. Freshmen Natalie Pacheco was the little spark plug off the bench that gave us great minutes on defense and her highlight would be the Rivalry game she stepped up and helped us with that victory. Junior Clarissa Ramos had some great defensive moments last night and became a better offensive threat this season. Junior Alex Naegelin grabbed some big rebounds for us in the paint during the game and improved so much from last year. Senior Camryn Martinez played great defense off the bench that created some steals for us in the 4th quarter her defense helped all season. Senior Cheyenne Vega has so much heart and her highlight was scoring in our last home game against Dilley.

  • 2-19-2020 Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Jourdanton

Last night, February 18th, your boys lost to Jourdanton 77-72. The boys played hard but missed 8 big free throws in the 4th quarter which could have changed the end result. Although we did not reach our goal of back to back District Championships, the boys are going to the playoffs for the 3rd straight year which hasn't been done in over 25 years on the boy's side. Come out and support as the boys work towards making a run in the playoffs.

  • 2-12-2020 Girls Varsity Basketball Beats Dilley/Parent's

The girls finished their last home game last night, February 11th, and beat Dilley 45-27 in front of their home crowd. We won the game in the 3rd quarter once again outscoring our opponent 11-5. It was a great team win everyone and got valuable playing minutes that will help in the playoffs. Leading the Pirates was Kiara Nixon with 17 points she had a great game offensively and defensively. Noelia Medina followed with 11 and played well while we were in some foul trouble. Camryn Martinez, Autumn Frias and Eleni Keith all had 3 points. Rounding out the scoring was Kylie Mask with 2 and she took another charge for the year. Alex Naegelin and Abby Moreno finished with 2 also. The highlight of the game happened when I was able to call timeout with 1:30 left on the clock and let my 5 Seniors finish the game. Kiara Nixon was driving to the basket for a layup and saw Cheyenne Vega on her other side and she dished the ball to her and Cheyenne scored her first 2 points of the year in her last home game as a Pirate!!! If you would have been there and saw this in action it would have made you feel so proud to be a PIRATE!!!! We finished the season 8-2 in District with the 2nd Place title and 11-18 for the year. We are playoff bound!!!
