  • 11-8-2021 2021 State Cross Country Meet

The changes brought by COVID is the State race is now run on two days. Friday, November 5, 2021 the girls' team and the boys’ team stepped to the line for their final race of the season. 2021 marked the first time in Lytle school history that a team of ladies would grace the course at Round Rock. We have had four individuals stand for Lytle but never a team. The ladies knew that they would need to run their best against the best to make the medal stand. Holiday was the favorite to win the Meet and they did as expected and won gold. The ladies just missed a 3rd place medal by placing 4th behind District foe Poth. The ladies fought hard and ran fast but, on this day, it wasn’t enough to stand on the medal stand. Eisabel was the only girl who had run the State course. She has qualified individually the last two years. Last year she placed 49th with a 13:08 time. The girls ran fast but as you can see many ladies ran fast due to the number of runners who finished between our runners. In sixteen seconds, sixteen girls finished between Mariah and Jadyn. Poth placed 3rd with 135 points and Lytle was fourth with 154 points.

  • 10-26-2021 Lytle Pirate Cross Country at Corpus - Region IV-3A Meet

What a wonderful day yesterday! What an amazing race by Natalie Williams who set a PR (Personal Record) in hot and humid conditions. Again, someone else stepped up to fill the void when others were having a hard time. Natalie became only the third girl in the last 20+ years to finish in the top 10 and get a Regional medal (Natalie Cortez 3rd in '13 and Clarissa Cantu 9th in '18). All the girls finished in the top 35 (out of 179 runners) to help them claim our first Regional Championship and a trip to the State Meet on November 5th (Homecoming Day). This is an amazing group of girls that can handle being coached hard and never take things personally.

  • 10-14-2021 Junior Varsity Cross Country District Meet

October 12, 2021, the Junior Varsity boys captured the District Title for the 6th straight year and all 6 members finished in the top 10. The Junior Varsity boys had a remarkably successful year as they won half of their Meets plus the District Meet. This group learned a lot this year and we hope that they continue to work hard and keep improving.

  • 10-13-2021 Junior High Cross Country District Meet

We arrived at Poth and announced our presence with a cannon shot across the bow of the other teams except the lightning meter registered it as a lightning strike so we were delayed by 30 minutes. The first race of 7th Grade lads and ladies did not begin until 5:45. This year we awarded top ten in 7th Grade boys and girls and 8th Grade girls and boys yet they combined the team points to award top Junior High Boys teams and Girls teams. We had already swept the morning High School races and we had the opportunity to sweep the Junior High but the girls were going to have to run their best. Weston Jackson, Jacob Zimmerle and Carlos Mercado stood for the boys and Vanessa Ayala, Laleina Riviera, Addison Wagner and Sara Morquecho represented the girls. Both Carlos and Sara ran their first race as a Junior High runner.

  • 9-27-2021 Lytle High School Pirate Cross Country at Randolph Meet

Lytle Pirate Cross Country team traveled to Randolph High School on Saturday, September 24th, which happens to be National Daughter's Day. I think our Varsity Girls wanted it to be a special day for their parents as Eisabel Guerrero helped the girls win their first Meet of the year along with also claiming her first Individual Championship. Four of the five girls finished in the top 10 and they continue to push hard and have put themselves in great position coming into the last 2 meets before District.

  • 9-27-2021 Junior High Cross Country at Randolph Meet

September 25, 2021, a beautiful Cirrus cloud X began the Cross Country Meet at Randolph. It was our first ever time to run a Cross Country meet at Randolph although many track memories flooded my head as I walked the course. It was a flat fast course and we had a promise of doing well. The 8th Grade boys and girls began the day for the Junior High. I expected the 8th Grade boys to win the Meet and that all three of our ladies would medal. This week and next week the ladies share their teammates with the band as they prepare for their marching contest. I love the fact that these ladies are multifaceted in their interests. It allows them to shine like the diamonds they are. After the race finished every 8th Grade athlete earned an individual medal and the 8th Grade boys team placed first only 5 points from a perfect score of 15.

  • 9-13-2021 High School Cross Country at Bandera Invitational

The Lytle Pirate Cross Country team traveled to Bandera on Saturday, September 11, 2021, for their fourth Meet and the halfway point of their regular season. The Varsity Girls started off the day with a 2nd place team finish behind host and #3 in 4A Bandera. The girls, Samantha Mujica, Moriah Gomez, and Dezmarie Ortega, had 3 Personal Records and two finished in the top 10 as Eisabel Guerrero came in 5th and Marissa Lopez 8th. They continue to improve week to week. Hopefully they can stay healthy and finish the second half strong.

  • 9-13-2021 Junior High Cross Country at Bandera Invitational

This week the Junior High Cross Country team traveled to Bandera to compete in the Bandera Invitational. It was a bigger race than last year’s COVID restrictions. As we drove into Bandera a group of Firefighters in full bunker gear were walking down the street in remembrance of 20 years ago. It was a humble reminder of the blessings we have to run and compete.

  • 9-6-2021 Junior High Cross Country at FEAST Invitational

We left very early on Saturday, September 4, 2021, to begin our Season. It was rather pleasant to begin the morning but as the races wore on the sun began to warm the course. The girls took to the start line with nine ladies, four 7th Grade ladies and five 8th Grade ladies. There were 20 teams and 290 runners at the start. The ladies placed 7th overall as a team which is two places higher than last year.
