  • Vote for Mike Trevino

11-15-2023 Please vote: Time to show some LOVE for our Lytle Pirate Head Football Coach Mike Trevino!

The work of our Lytle Pirate Head Football Coach, Mike Trevino, surpassed expectations. The results he achieved on the field this year extended into the classroom. The positive effects on his players' character is clear to their teachers. Not just our school, but for our entire community, one man has taught huge lessons on the power of love. And in the Texas Football Scene, Coach Trevino's transformational leadership did not go unnoticed.

  • 11-10-2023 2023 Lytle Pirate Football (Season In Review)

In May of 2023, nobody, including myself, could've written a script better for the Lytle Pirate Football program than God just did. I knew exactly what we needed to do to restore, refuel, and revamp a community, but God just did it better!

  • 11-3-2023 8th Grade Football - The Legend of Tombstone

On Thursday, November 2, 2023, your 8th grade boys went down to Crystal City shorthanded and out manned. It was just like the battle at the OK Corral. With justice on our side and grit in our teeth, we showed what we are all about!!! There weren't any obstacles that these boys didn't and wouldn't overcome, making sure they were picking up the slack for their posse that didn't make the trip.

  • 11-6-2023 Varsity Football vs Crystal City

We secured a 3rd place seeding heading into the 2023 UIL Football State Playoffs, which is the first time in 10 years that Lytle has made the playoffs and the first time in 10 years that Lytle has accomplished 7 wins!

  • 11-3-2023 Junior Varsity Football Falls to Crystal City

What a season it has been for the Junior Varsity Pirates! These young men have shown tremendous growth throughout the season not only as a team but as individuals. The coaches are extremely proud of their accomplishments this football season. On Thursday, November 2, 2023, was a tough physical game but the Pirates fought every second of the game and never backed down from the opponent. The game was a lot closer than the score indicated and these Pirates were in a great position to leave with a win, but the chips didn't quite fall where we wanted them to. If you see these young men around, please congratulate them on one heck of a season!  Crystal City 24 - Lytle 6

  • 11-3-2023 7th Grade Football Ends the Season in Crystal City

On Thursday, November 2, 2023, the 7th grade football team ended the season in Crystal City. We could have used some of Popeye’s spinach. With a depleted roster, we fought and clawed our way throughout the game. The kids had a great year with a lot of learning during the season. We coaches learned more than they did. I am gonna miss this bunch of Pirates and are looking forward to them growing up to Friday nights.  Crystal City 42 - Lytle 28

  • 10-31-2023 Varsity Football recap

Obstacles, opposition, and adversity are things we talk about daily within our program. We have to have these tough conversations because these "Big 3" create discomfort, disruption, and difficulty. We prepare our kids daily to "choose hard", and not find a back door or side door to greatness; we have to meet it head on and at the front door.

  • 10-27-2023 Junior Varsity Football vs Jourdanton

Last night, October 26, 2023, the Junior Varsity Pirates went to battle vs the Jourdanton Indians. Jourdanton's air attack came to life early, putting them up 14-0 early with two big plays, but our defense settled in and held them scoreless the remainder of the first half. It has been a rough two weeks offensively, but our ground game finally came to life with the play of Jayden Motes, Princeton Menchaca, and a huge game from Dezel Cashion. Running around and over defenders, he was able to put our offense in great positions to score all night long. After an unsuccessful trip near the goal-line, the pirates were down 14-0 at the half.  One last big play through the air added to the Indians’ lead, but the Pirates fight would not waiver. We continued to lean on the running game against a stout defense and a late interception by Kash Friesenhahn kept hope alive. Unfortunately, in the end, the comeback was not meant to be, and the Pirates would fall here at home.

  • 10-27-2023 7th Grade Football vs Jourdanton

Yesterday, October 26, 2023, the 7th Grade Pirates took on the Jourdanton Indians. It was an uphill battle all afternoon. We fought and clawed every step of the way but just couldn’t get anything going. Our defense played their tail off. Jourdanton 12 - Lytle 0

  • 10-25-2023 Varsity Football Recap

On Friday night, October 20, 2023, the Varsity football team was "Back in Black" and back at home against Cotulla. It had been a long 6 game road trip since the 1st time we were back at home on August 25 to open the season vs Carrizo Springs.

  • 10-20-2023 Junior Varsity Football vs Cotulla

It has been a rough two weeks for the Junior Varsity Pirates. Coming off a tough loss to Hondo on October 12, 2023, the boys were anxious to rebound with a win against the Cotulla Cowboys. However, some costly turnovers and penalties prevented us from doing that. The Junior Varsity Pirates played a great game defensively and held the Cowboys to only one touchdown, which came late in the game. Offensively, we struggled to move the ball and when we got some momentum, we would cough up the ball. It was a tough physical game, and I couldn't be prouder of our boys not backing down. We have one more home game, so I hope to see you there supporting these young men.

  • 10-20-2023 7th Grade Football at Cotulla

On October 19, 2023, we travelled to Cotulla for a tussle with the Cowboys. It was a hard-fought game that ended up going our way. Our defense was clicking yesterday. What was special about it was that we used all 23 players on our roster to pitch a “shut-out”. We took a page out of Coach Freddie Martinez book and his High School Defense staff of Coach Bippert, Clark and Hettler ton learn to bend but not break while using all available players. A few players that stepped up yesterday were Jaxon Hunt, Joseph Jimenez, Isaiah Cortez, Ethan Peralta, Jaden Rios, and Ivan Mireles. These young men have waited for their number to be called most of the season and when it was called yesterday, they responded.

  • 10-20-2023 Greatest Show Ever! 8th Grade Football

When I think of Cowboys and Oil, I THINK OF THE GREATEST SHOW EVER, not Cotulla!!! And just like the greatest show ever, so was the 8th grade boys football team last night!!! After a long trip to Cowboy country, we started off a little sluggish, sort of like Sue Ellen on a Friday night, but starting the second quarter, these boys played more like Bobby Ewing. And if you remember, he was an All American at SMU in the show. Just like Bobby, they played with class, dedication, and everyone was pulling for them.

  • 10-16-2023 Varsity Football at Hondo

Fear kills more dreams than failure ever will! We don't fear failure because we know failure is the prerequisite for success. We had a tough battle that we faced on Friday Night, October 13, 2023, vs the Hondo Owls, but our boys exemplified what it meant to "Dig"! Being down 21-0 in the 2nd quarter, there were many that had written us off prior to and during the game. But we do what we do, and that's "put our head down with eyes forward" to continue to focus on us. We responded with a touchdown right before the half that made it 21-7 into halftime. We came out of the 2nd half with some momentum, and after our defense created a turnover, we struck once more with a touchdown pass that put the score 21-14. At that moment, we knew our kids believed. Regardless of the outcome, what happened Friday night was a true display of love and leadership, energy, effort, and enthusiasm!

  • 10-13-2023 Eighth Grade Football Falls to Hondo

As the eighth-grade boys hosted Hondo last night, October 12, 2023, it was Friday the 13th come early!!! We had a creepy mysterious drone flying overhead, but like an eerie wind in the night, it seemed to disappear when Head Camp Counselor Sprenger went and handled the biz! Like Black Cats jumping through the window when you least expect it, so were the points on the scoreboard! With the high humidity, it wasn't Camping at Crystal Lake, it was Cramping at Crystal Lake!!! This game was as intense as waiting on Jason to make his next move! The boys fought as hard as counselors running for safety in the woods! With two minutes to go in the game, the Owls converted yes, believe it or not, a fourth and 13, YES, I SAID 13! Hondo ended up scoring, giving the Pirates one last ditch effort.
