The Lytle Techno Pirates walked away from their first meet of the season in fourth place, winning three of their five matches.
The girls finished the Southside Tourney with a 2nd place finish. They battled Uvalde and won 53-26 to advance them to the ship. We would face Cole again for the championship. The girls fell short 48-37 but they played a great game and fought until the end. The girls got a lot of games under their belt and we are coming together as a team. It was great bringing home some hardware back to Lytle these seniors just keeping adding to the trophy case. Congratulations to Senior Captains Calyssa Sevier and Katara Whitfield for making the All-Tournament Team. So proud of these young ladies. Combined for both games Calyssa Sevier had 43 points and Katara Whitfield with 23 points.
Yesterday, November 19, 2023, we hosted a community Thanksgiving Dinner and it was a huge success, we served close to 300 people! We are very grateful for those that were able to show up to help prepare the meal, serve the meal and clean up after the meal. Your incredible dedication and hard work truly made this event a tremendous success, and I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to all of you.
The girls are 3-1 for the tourney and got 2nd in their pool.
Last night, November 16, 2023, the 8th Grade A-Team began their season here at home vs the Cotulla Cowboys. The game was off to a fast start for both teams as it did not take long to put points up on the board. After a quick timeout, the boys were able to settle in defensively and hold the cowboys to 5 points for the remainder of the first half. They would go up at the break with a slim 17-14 lead. The second half was just as intense as the first. The points became tougher to earn for both sides as defense quickly became the theme of the game. It was very clear this game was going to come down to the last quarter as we were up just 3 heading into the final 7 minutes. Fatigue started to set in, but we had some tremendous help from the rotational players off the bench. The boys would get behind by 5 with little time left, but after a huge 3 point shot from Easton Davila was able to pull the game within reach with just seconds left!
The work of our Lytle Pirate Head Football Coach, Mike Trevino, surpassed expectations. The results he achieved on the field this year extended into the classroom. The positive effects on his players' character is clear to their teachers. Not just our school, but for our entire community, one man has taught huge lessons on the power of love. And in the Texas Football Scene, Coach Trevino's transformational leadership did not go unnoticed.
Last night, November 13, 2023, the Junior Varsity girls traveled to Navarro for a basketball game and ended up with a loss of 26-52. The girls showed much improved energy and effort in the second half, flying to the ball, diving for loose balls, and encouraging one another. The team roster includes Genesis Martinez who scored 4 points and 3 steals, Cayleigh Smith played important key minutes with 3 blocks and 4 rebounds, Sofia Stewart ended with 8 points and 7 rebounds, K'Lnn Perez also played key minutes, and played with an injured hand finishing with 2 steals and 3 deflections. Claire Canales ended with 4 points and 10 rebounds, Adrianne Muraira was our Top Scorer with 10 points and 6 steals, and Jaylen Villareal finished the night with 4 steals 3 rebounds.
The girls took the court on Friday, November 10, 2023, with an early 5 o’clock start time and took the win over SA Christian, 63-38. They did not get a scrimmage, so they were not sure how they would respond together as a new team with many new faces. However, the girls came out and did some really great things. They had 20 points in transition and scored 28 points from their turnovers. They are not as fast as last year, but once they get into basketball shape, that will definitely improve their defensive game. They had 17 steals and 48 of the points were in the paint. They need to work on turnovers, they had 19 but once they get some chemistry, I see that number dropping.
In May of 2023, nobody, including myself, could've written a script better for the Lytle Pirate Football program than God just did. I knew exactly what we needed to do to restore, refuel, and revamp a community, but God just did it better!
So many in our district have had the privilege of being a part of Calyssa's learning journey here at Lytle ISD, so for Feel Good Friday, I wanted to give each of you a chance to experience her Signing Day celebration.
An awesome Homecoming Football Game win and half-time Royalty Announcements made the night one to remember! The recognition given to our students who were chosen by their peers, and the honors bestowed on three community members chosen for their contributions to our schools and town made the night magical. If you missed it, check out the photos and read the highlights of those who got to be Lytle Pirate Royalty for the night.
Yesterday, November 8, 2023, was a very special day for Lytle High School as we watched Calyssa Sevier sign for a full Athletic Scholarship to Division 2 Midwestern State University. We have not had an athlete in the last 12 years be able to sign early on this day. Calyssa continues to make history and break records and her basketball season does not start until tomorrow.
Congratulations to the 2023-2024 Volleyball All-District Selections! Thank you for your hard work and dedication. We are proud to announce the Varsity volleyball team for making Academic All-District!! Keep up the good work, on and off the court!
On Thursday, November 2, 2023, your 8th grade boys went down to Crystal City shorthanded and out manned. It was just like the battle at the OK Corral. With justice on our side and grit in our teeth, we showed what we are all about!!! There weren't any obstacles that these boys didn't and wouldn't overcome, making sure they were picking up the slack for their posse that didn't make the trip.
