  • 9-22-2023 Golf at Alamo City Series Golf Tournament

Yesterday, September 21, 2023, the boys golf team played in the Alamo City Series golf tournament at Willow Springs golf course in San Antonio. It was great to have a full team of Sophomore Daniel Herrera, Sophomore Thomas Rubal, Sophomore Lee Mills, Sophomore Isaac Bojorquez, and Junior Juaquin Castro. Many of the golfers were playing in their first golf tournament EVER. The big takeaway from yesterday is that they have “THE GOLF BUG”.  Daniel Herrera scored a personal record with 104; Daniel was our sole golfer to return from last year’s team. Our next tournament will be November 15, 2023, at Brackenridge Golf Course in San Antonio. We are looking forward to a great season.

  • 9-20-2023 Varsity Volleyball at Crystal City

The Lytle Lady Pirates traveled to the Crystal City Javelinas last night, September 19, 2023, for volleyball. It was the first district game of the season. While we ultimately went 0-3 for sets on the night, we kept it close and were able to see where the girls could use more work to be competitive with these former 4A teams. Our blocks are starting to come with an underclassman Middle front crew including Kylie Cantu, Frankie Scotello and Lilian Evans. Our upperclassman hitters, Calyssa Sevier and Amelia Martinez are swinging away with kills for us on the front row. Our rookie setter, Alyssa Sprenger, has played Libero for us the last two years but is starting to gain more confidence as she continues to lead our offense, setting for the first time in her volleyball career. Our backrow struggled a bit last night, but there is room for improvement and changes we can make to strengthen them.

  • 9-18-2023 Vartsity Football at Natalia "Legacy Bowl"

"Mountain Moved!"  What a night it was for our town and our team on Friday, September 15, 2023! "Dig Deep" was on full display throughout the night, and it was such a beautiful atmosphere and environment to be a part of.

  • 9-15-2023 Junior Varsity Football vs Nataila Mustangs

Yesterday afternoon, September 14, 2023, the Junior Varsity Pirates took on the Natalia Mustangs and it was a smash-mouth football game from the very beginning. The Pirates took the opening kickoff to the house, which gave the Pirates an early 8-0 lead. Unfortunately, those would be the only points the Pirates would put on the scoreboard. Yesterday's football game was a good old defensive battle for both teams. Our defense played lights out and had the Mustangs struggling to move the ball all game. The Pirate offense struggled all game, moving the ball and giving up a pick 6 to the opponent. Although this game wasn't flashy with a lot of big plays, I believe these boys were taught a huge lesson about what it takes to "Dig Deep" when it gets tough. Thank you to all who came out to support the Junior Varsity Pirates. Also, thank you to all the staff for everything you do for these young men.

On Saturday, September 9, 2023, the Lytle Pirate Cross Country team traveled to Bandera City Park for their 4th Meet of the year and the halfway point of our season. This group continues to amaze me and make me proud as 16 of the 17 medalled.

  • 9-8-2023 Junior Varsity Football vs Pearsall Mavericks

If you weren't able to make it out to Walter H. Joyce stadium last night, September 7, 2023, then you missed out on an explosive performance by your Junior Varsity Pirates against the Pearsall Mavericks! Coming off a 22-6 victory last week against the Kennedy Rockets, the Junior Varsity Pirates were ready to keep their winning streak alive. Last night our Pirates' offense was firing on all cylinders and put 36 points on the scoreboard. The offensive touchdowns were scored by Jayden Motes with 2 touchdowns, Princeton Menchaca with 2 touchdowns, and Ethan Elizondo with 1 touchdown.

  • 9-5-2023 Pirate Cross Country at FEAST Patriots Invitational Meet

The Lytle Pirate Cross Country team traveled to River City Community Church Athletics Fields on Saturday, September 2, 2023, to participate in the biggest and fastest meet we will probably attend all year. How fast? We saw Boerne Champions Elizabeth Leachman run 15:54 5k and won by over 2 minutes. She is coached by Jonathan Tate, husband to Tanya Tate, our Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

  • 9-4-2023 Varsity Football at John F. Kennedy

On Friday, September 1, 2023, the Lytle Pirate Football team went head-to-head with John F. Kennedy Rockets. What a night it was for "our team" and "our town"! The game began with Kennedy returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown, which put us behind fast, 7-0. But our culture of "Dig Deep" continued to carry us the entire night.

  • 8-29-2023 High School Volleyball Recap

This is a three-day tournament, and we were placed in another pool on Friday morning, August 25, 2023, with YWLA, Kennedy and Cole. We made some lineup changes against our first opponent, YWLA, bringing up a Junior Varsity middle, so we could have a big front row and move one of our hitters to libero. While we lost a very close game, we saw some changes that we could make and decided to go against the norm, eliminating the libero position in our team. The result was an amazing and fun game where we dominated Kennedy and had a good time doing it. We went on to defeat Cole to end the day. We have 8 very strong players that play better when they can be on the floor together and 5 strong hitters that can also pass the ball. Eliminating the Libero opened possibilities we had never considered.

Junior High theater teacher, Mrs. Belinda Hughes (28 years of service with Lytle) always does an amazing job with her students and directs their plays. Last school year, she and her students enjoyed a great deal of success - winning first place in the district competition with their performance of The Dear Departed, A Comedy in One Act by Stanley Houghton. While Mrs. Hughes is very proud of his entire cast and crew. She was especially proud of three sixth grade students who were cast in the lead roles. Now, you can enjoy this award-winning performance, brought to you by the high school students in Skull Studios. https://youtu.be/8ySlF-qEN4g

On Saturday, August 19, 2023, the cross-country teams came back from Floresville with no trophies but plenty of medals and knowledge. All seven of our returning Varsity runners from last year's State teams finished in the TOP 15 and medaled along with nine other Lytle Pirate Cross County runners. We only fielded Junior Varsity teams with the Boys finishing 3rd and the Girls 2nd.
